Based on our Environmental Policy, we have established guidelines for implementing measures appropriate to each business regarding three areas: mitigating climate change, contributing to recycling-based society, and contributing to a society in harmony with nature.
"Environmental Policy Guidelines" (established in April 2022)
The guidelines below are for implementing measures appropriate for each business based on Environmental Policy.
1. Contribution to climate change mitigation
We recognize that greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide are a major cause of climate change, including global warming, and view the resulting "intensification of floods and landslides," "impacts on procurement of raw materials such as agricultural, forestry and fishery resources," and "increases in heat stroke and infectious diseases" as major business risks. On the other hand, we view the efficient use of energy in response to climate change as an opportunity to reduce business costs and create new business value by promoting the urban and community development, and by working on this, we will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
- (1)Promoting energy conservation
In all our businesses, including our transportation business, which consumes large amounts of energy, we will implement measures to conserve energy, such as introducing energy-saving equipment, optimizing energy usage, and electrifying equipment that uses fossil fuels.
- (2)Use of renewable energy
We will work to promote decarbonization throughout society by encouraging the use of renewable energy, utilizing carbon offsets, and introducing new technologies such as hydrogen.
- (3)Creation of renewable energy
We will introduce additional renewable energy sources, stabilize procurement, and promote further investment in and spread of renewable energy facilities.
- (4)Collaboration with the supply chain
We will work to decarbonize the entire supply chain and improve business value through collaboration and cooperation with customers, business partners, and other stakeholders.
2. Contributing to recycling-based society
We recognize that resources are finite, and that the processes involved in the extraction, manufacturing, and use of resources, including the emission of pollutants and disposal of those resources, pose a risk to Biodiversity and human health. We comply with relevant laws and regulations, and promote the 3Rs of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle to help realize recycling-based society, thereby working to improve the sustainability of our business.
- (1)Proper disposal and management of waste and hazardous substances
We will prevent and reduce the impact of waste and hazardous substances on the environment by correctly understanding and complying with laws, regulations, and other societal requirements regarding waste and hazardous substances.
- (2)Zero waste initiatives
Taking advantage of the nature of our business, which has many points of contact with customers, we strive to reduce waste emissions based on the 3R concept in all aspects of our business, thereby promoting the reduction of environmental impact.
- (3)Implementing sustainable procurement
In order to procure materials and products with a low environmental impact, we will consider the environment not only within our own company but throughout the entire supply chain and work on sustainable procurement.
- (4)Promoting the sharing economy
In line with people's changing lifestyles, we will work to promote the sharing economy, which enables resource consumption to be reduced by using things and assets only when needed.
- (5)Forest Conservation
We will strive to conserve forests, which are closely related to Biodiversity and climate change.
- (6)Conservation of Water Resources
In response to the shortage and pollution of Water Resources, which are essential for the existence of living things, we will work to reduce our usage and conserve Water Resources.
3. Contributing to a society that coexists with nature (preserving Biodiversity)
While our business activities depend on the abundant nature in which many different living organisms live, we recognize that they place a significant burden on Biodiversity as a risk and will work to reduce, conserve and restore it.
- (1)Consideration of Biodiversity
Biodiversity is a global environmental issue. We recognize the importance of preserving Biodiversity only in our own business but also throughout the entire supply chain. We will work to preserve and restore the natural environment while reducing the impact of real estate development and material procurement.
- (2)Providing a living environment where people can come into contact with nature
In each area where our business is involved, we will consider the creation of green spaces and waterfront areas, and the ecosystem, and work to Urban and community development and operate businesses that people can live in safely and comfortably. We will also use the knowledge we have gained through our business along the railway line to work on environmentally friendly Urban and community development development in regional cities, overseas, and other areas outside the railway line.
- (3)Environmental assessment
Because real estate development is particularly closely related to the natural environment and ecosystems, we will implement environmental impact assessments that comply with laws and regulations, and strive to reduce the environmental burden by obtaining environmental certifications, among other things, and thereby increase environmental value.
4. Setting goals and continuous improvement
We recognize that setting targets for energy and resource use, waste generation, and other environmental conservation and improvement is an effective approach. We will set specific medium- to long-term numerical targets (KPIs) and strive for continuous improvement, thereby responding to societal demands and creating opportunities for business growth, and will work to achieve these through effective management.
