In addition, by utilizing its communication network, the company contributes to Safety & Security living in towns and cities through disaster prevention solutions that provide local government information and disaster prevention information in cooperation with government agencies.

Development of 5G environment in entertainment city SHIBUYA

We are working with Sharing Design, a company in which we have a partial investment, to provide 5G base station sharing services for mobile communication carriers. Based on the comprehensive partnership agreement concluded with Shibuya Ward to realize the "Shibuya Ward Industry and Tourism Vision" and "Entertainment City SHIBUYA," we have been promoting the development of a 5G environment centered on the area in front of Shibuya Station, and base station sharing services have already begun in areas with particularly high traffic and congestion rates in Shibuya Ward, such as Shibuya Scramble Crossing, Shibuya Station Hachiko Square, Shibuya Mark City, and some areas of the Shibuya Underground Mall.

Going forward, the company plans to expand to each Tokyu Line station and commercial facility, develop digital urban infrastructure areas served by Tokyu’s railway lines, and support the expansion of new services using 5G, aiming to make the area "the most desirable place to live along the Tokyu Line in Japan."

A new lifestyle experience with energy Tokyu power supply

Tokyu power supply to contribute to the urban and community development areas served by Tokyu’s railway lines by promoting initiatives in cooperation with local governments and areas served by Tokyu’s railway lines Tokyu Group companies to help realize a decarbonized, recycling-based society.

For example, Setagaya Ward has begun an initiative to produce and consume renewable electricity locally, supplying it from the Setagaya Ward Miura Solar Power Plant to Tokyu Bus Stops, Futako Tamagawa Rise SC, and Goto Museum of Art within the ward. In addition, Kawasaki City is participating in an initiative to produce and consume renewable electricity locally and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, supplying surplus electricity from the city's waste-to-energy generation system and electricity from renewable sources both within and outside the city to public and private facilities within the city.

As part of the corporate PPA initiative, we plan to begin a stable supply of renewable energy generated from solar power plants newly constructed in eight locations across the country to Shibuya Stream, Minami-Machida Grandberry Park, Tokyu Kabukicho Tower through long-term contracts.

In addition, by using non-fossil fuel certificates designated as renewable energy, the electricity delivered to residential customers is essentially 100% renewable energy electricity.

We will continue to provide services that support your smart lifestyles, further promote energy conservation and renewable energy measures, and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized, recycling-based society.

Infrastructure fund launched to make Japan's social infrastructure sustainable

  • Decarbonized and recycling-based society

For many years, we have been involved in social infrastructure projects in various fields, including railway, buses, and other forms of transportation, urban and community development, electricity, gas, etc. As societal demands in recent years have placed even greater importance on SDGs and ESG initiatives in business, we are working to create and invest in new social infrastructure, such as airports, with the aim of resolving social issues through our infrastructure business.

In Japan's infrastructure business sector, many policies have been enacted to adapt to changes in social structure, such as promoting public-private partnerships and the introduction of renewable energy. However, issues unique to infrastructure projects exist, such as the risks of commercialization and mismatches in funding, making it necessary to diversify business schemes and fundraising mechanisms.

Together with Infronia Holdings, Global Infrastructure Management, an investor in both companies, and other supporting business partners, we have built an infrastructure business platform that includes two types of infrastructure funds with different purposes in order to resolve these issues, expand our business further, and promote the development of the domestic infrastructure capital market.

Through this business platform, we aim to commercialize various domestic infrastructure projects that are currently under development, are not yet in operation, and are open to public tenders. We will be involved in business operations and value addition in the fields of transportation and shipping, tourism, education, and entertainment, regional utility services, and the environment and energy, thereby resolving issues in the social infrastructure field and working to realize a decarbonized, recycling-based society through our business.

Entertainment as a form of "play" infrastructure

We are developing Urban and community development that functionally arrange "work, living, and play infrastructure." Of the three infrastructure functions of "work," "live," and "play," we have been engaged in entertainment and cultural businesses for some time as "play" infrastructure. The idea dates back to the Toyoko Hall of Tokyu Kaikan, which opened in 1954 and gained popularity as a "versatile theater," and the Tokyu Bunka Kaikan, which opened in 1956 and was also called the "hall of entertainment." The idea has been passed down to Bunkamura, which combines a concert hall, theater, art museum, and movie theater, and Tokyu Theatre Orb in Shibuya Hikarie. We believe that these are necessary functions of the town so that people areas served by Tokyu’s railway lines can live as they are and feel happy. Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, we have been unable to experience such entertainment for a long time, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, when we see the expressions of our customers who visit our facilities while taking measures against infection, we feel that they have high expectations of us as "play" infrastructure.

*Bunkamura has been closed for an extended period since April 10, 2023, except for Orchard Hall. Activities at the facility are continuing in Shibuya, surrounding facilities areas served by Tokyu’s railway lines, and other Tokyu Group facilities. Please refer to the Bunkamura website for details.

Tokyu Recreation delivers excitement through movies

Within our group, Tokyu Recreation serves as the infrastructure for "entertainment" through movies. Tokyu Recreation operates the cinema complex "109 Cinemas" across the country, delivering excitement. In addition to providing new value to extraordinary experiences by introducing the latest imaging technology such as IMAX® and 4DX, the company also plans and creates events.

We also operate sports and leisure facilities such as bowling alleys and fitness clubs, as well as fun restaurants, retail stores, and hotels, such as Shaun the Sheep Village Shops & Cafes in Grandberry park.

"A place to pursue your passion" Tokyu Kabukicho Tower 's new entertainment challenge

Tokyu Recreation used to operate the Shinjuku Tokyu Milano entertainment complex in Shinjuku Kabukicho. The site of the complex, which closed in 2014, was redeveloped by Tokyu Recreation and reborn as Tokyu Kabukicho Tower. Tokyu Kabukicho Tower is a high-rise complex consisting of a hotel and entertainment facilities such as a movie theater, theater, and live music hall. The entire facility is an extraordinary experience and can be said to be a symbol of the infrastructure for "play." The concept is "creating a place to pursue what you love." The spread of the COVID-19 infection has greatly changed the way people around the world enjoy entertainment and their needs, but the desire for real experience value is increasing, and passion for what we love is spreading across generations. At Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, we will work to create stories and propose lifestyles that will create new "loves" through "discovering, nurturing, and letting people soar." In addition, through these stories, we will create opportunities for people to discover what they love, both in person and online, and a space where people can share their passion and feelings about what they love.

The theater and live concert hall at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower will be operated by TST Entertainment, which is jointly funded by Tokyu Recreation, and Sony Music Entertainment, while the movie theater will be operated by Tokyu Recreation. The hotel will be operated by Tokyu Hotels, and Tokyu Group will work together to create new entertainment in Kabukicho and work to develop infrastructure for "play" in conjunction with the urban Urban and community development of Shinjuku Kabukicho.
