Views on Sustainable Management
Our company and Tokyu Group believe that it is important to accurately grasp the changing needs of our customers from a long-term perspective, provide new businesses and services, and solve social issues. We hope that each and every employee will share this mission and create new value, thereby achieving sustainable growth together with society.

- 100 years of facing social issues
- The Tokyu Group marked its centenary on September 2, 2022. We express our thanks to the many stakeholders who have supported us this far.
Over the past 100 years, it has been in our DNA to confront societal concerns and offer new value through urban and community development. With this in mind, we have conducted business on the basis of both development along Tokyu railway lines and in Tokyu operating areas on the one hand and the expansion of the Tokyu transportation network on the other. For example, in response to the social issues of the housing shortage and the need to improve the living environment in the Tokyo area during the period of rapid economic growth, we planned urban development involving the construction of residential areas and transportation routes that lead to the current Tama Den-en-toshi area, and worked with local residents to promote development. Bearing in mind the tireless efforts of our predecessors, we will strive to adapt to changes in society and create communities that coexist in harmony with nature. Our goal is to establish a decarbonation, recycling-based society. We will provide enjoyment, enrichment, and beauty, which everyone seeks, and will develop communities where everyone can live comfortably. We are committed to fulfilling our mission: to create beautiful living environments, in which each person can pursue individual happiness in a harmonious society.
- Achieving the SDGs through the creation of beautiful living environments
- The "beauty" we seek is a way of being that evokes deep emotion in the heart of each individual, transcending nations and generations, in harmony with people, society, and nature. We feel that this universal standard of value is also in line with the principles of the SDGs, a set of social issues common to the world.
Sustainable management represents our fundamental approach to management,, and the six material sustainability themes (Materiality) that we have identified as key issues to be addressed have been evaluated and summarized from the perspective of "importance to the Tokyu Group" and "importance to society" with reference to the SDGs' 169 targets and other factors. We will address these material sustainability themes by taking a backcasting approach and coming up with creative ideas. We will focus on sustainable urban development that responds to the changing times and society. Our goal is to contribute towards achieving the SDGs.
- Aiming to build communities where everyone can continue to live in peace by providing enjoyment, enrichment, and beauty
- Russia’s ongoing belligerence in Ukraine, a materialization of geopolitical risk, has triggered rising prices of energy and raw materials. In addition, there has been a rapid tightening of monetary policy in Europe and the United States. All of this has resulted in heightened uncertainty over the future. In this situation, we aim to remain a sustainable company and make greater contributions towards achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which are planned to be accomplished by 2030. To this end, we will be focusing on three objectives—creating attractive areas served by Tokyu’s railway lines, improving services from the customer’s perspective, and exercising creativity—and take steps “Toward a Beautiful Age,” the Tokyu Group slogan. In March 2023, we opened the Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line, which provides far more convenient and faster services to residents living in areas served by the line. In April, we opened Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, which offers entertainment facilities and hotels. As described above, we aim to develop sustainable urban communities with social and environmental values and offer enjoyment, enrichment, and beauty where everyone can continue to live comfortably. We are committed to taking action that contributes to achieving the SDGs with our customers and other stakeholders.
We hope that you will deepen your understanding of our business and look forward to our continued "transformation" and the challenge of new initiatives that will emerge from it.

*The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are international goals for 2016 to 2030. They form part of the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. The SDGs consist of 17 goals and 169 targets to achieve a sustainable world and include the pledge to leave no one on our planet behind.
Sustainable Management Policy
We have set "Safety & Security," "Urban and community development," "Quality of living environment," "Human resource development," "Decarbonization and recycling-based society," and "Corporate governance and compliance" as Material sustainability themes (materiality). We have also established "sustainable management" as our basic management stance to address the themes “Creating a beautiful living environment for our future" and “Continuously pursuing solutions to social issues through business."
