Since its founding in 1922, the Tokyu Group has continued to address social issues through urban and community development, based on its railway business, with the aim of creating beautiful living environments. This section introduces representative initiatives and awards for social contribution. As reference information, the trajectory of major business activities* is also provided.

September, 1922 Meguro Kamata Electric Railway (our predecessor) is established.*
November, 1923 Mekama line opens to traffic between Meguro and Kamata.*
November, 1934 Toyoko Department Store opens.*
April, 1939 Toyoko Commercial School for Girls is established, with Keita Gotoh appointed as honorary principal.
April, 1940 Toyoko Gakuen is established; Keita Gotoh becomes president.
April, 1949 The Dai-tokyu Memorial Library opens (it merged with the Gotoh Museum in 2011).
January, 1953 Prospectus for the development of the Josei South District (now Tokyu Tama Den-en-toshi area) is announced.*
July, 1953 Tokyu Hospital is opened.
November, 1954 Keita Gotoh is appointed President of the Musashi Institute of Technology.
November Toyoko Hall opens in Toyoko Department Store, extending the west wing. Aiming to popularize kabuki, theater, rakugo, and other forms of storytelling, the hall offers performances at inexpensive prices (-1985).
April, 1955 Musashi Institute of Technology and Toyoko Gakuen merge to form Gotoh Educational Corporation (now Tokyo City University Group).
April Tokyu Driving School opens.
August, 1956 Keita Gotoh is appointed the head of directors of ASIA
Educational Incorporative.
April, 1957 The Gotoh Planetarium opens in the Tokyu Bunka Kaikan, which opened in Shibuya in 1956 (-2001).
April, 1960 The Gotoh Museum opens.
March, 1962 Completion of the Nogawa No. 1 district as the first land readjustment project in Tokyu Tama Den-en-toshi area*.
1963 As of 2021, the Tokyu Association, which consists of employees of the Tokyu Group in 23 areas in Japan and four areas overseas, is engaged in community cleanup activities and cultural and sports events.
April, 1966 Den-en-toshi Line between Mizonokuchi and Nagatsuta opens to traffic*.
April, 1972 The Tokyu Greening Campaign (currently known as the Mido*Link action) begins to present saplings.
July A decision is made to adopt “Humanizer Tokyu Group for Human Enrichment” as the slogan for the Tokyu Group.
August, 1974 The Tokyu Foundation for Environmental Purification (now the Tokyu Foundation) is established.
October, 1975 The Tokyu Foundation for Foreign Students* (now the Tokyu Foundation) is established.
April, 1982 The Train and Bus Museum opens under Takatsu Station elevated railway tracks.
October The Tokyu Tama Plaza Tokyu S.C. opens.*
October, 1986 The Tokyu Group’s slogan is adopted: “Deepening the richness of the 21st century —Tokyu Group.”
September, 1989 Bunkamura multipurpose cultural facility opens.
October Tokyu Tama Den-en-toshi area wins the Prime Minister’s Prize in the Green City Awards.
March, 1990 The Gotoh Memorial Foundation (now the Tokyu Foundation) is established.
March, 1994 The Tokyu Foundation for Environmental Purification publishes the first edition of “Let's Go to the Tama River,” a supplementary reader for environmental education. Distribution free of charge begins to elementary schools in the basin.
April Opening of the Tokyu Tama Den-en-toshi Machidukuri Kan (Urban and community museum) at Tana Station on the Den-en-toshi Line (-2015).
December, 1995 First Tokyu Silvester Concert is held at Bunkamura Orchard Hall (sponsored by the Tokyu Group).
September, 1997 The Tokyu Group slogan “Toward a Beautiful Age” is adopted, and the Tokyu Group Philosophy is established. “Creating beautiful living environments,in which each person can pursue individual happiness in a harmonious society” is adopted as the Group’s Mission Statement.
May, 2001 Flowering on the Setagaya Line is launched, an initiative to plant flowers and plants on the Setagaya Line track and in stations.
December, 2007 The Tokyu Kids Program is launched, which provides parents and children with work experience and facility tours at Tokyu Group companies.
July, 2009 First awards are given for the Tokyu Group Environmental Prize and the Tokyu Group Brand Prize (now the Tokyu Group Environmental and Social Contribution Prize).
August The Tokyu Foundation for Environmental Purification establishes the Academic Award for Social Contribution with the aim of contributing to the promotion of academia in Japan.
April, 2012 An agreement is concluded with the City of Yokohama to work together on regenerating suburban residential areas for the next generation, and an agreement is signed to promote next-generation suburban development.*
April The Mido*Link action program is launched to support local greening activities and community building
As a result, the Tokyu Greening Campaign is terminated (223,000 saplings were distributed over the 40 years since 1972).
March, 2018 The company announces its medium-term three-year management plan. Under the basic policy of “Make the Sustainable Growth,” the company sets three sustainability goals (sustainable urban development, sustainable corporate development, and sustainable human development) and identifies six key sustainable themes (safety and security; urban development; decarbonized and recycling society; quality of life environment; HR development; and corporate governance and compliance).
March, 2019 Setagaya Line becomes the first line in Japan to run on 100% renewable energy, with no CO₂ emissions.
April The Tokyu Foundation is established through the merger of the Tokyu Foundation for Better Environment, the Tokyu Foundation for Foreign Students, and the Gotoh Memorial Foundation.
July The first Tokyu Group Environmental and Social Contribution Awards are given, adding social contribution initiatives to the Tokyu Group Environmental Awards and the Tokyu Group Brand Awards.
September “Creating a beautiful living environment for our future” is announced as a Long-Term Management Initiative based on sustainable management under the Tokyu Group Slogan
July, 2020 Subsidy begins of the Tokyu Children’s Support Program, which supports local activities aiming to improve children’s wellbeing.
September Operation begins of the SDGs Train 2020,  a train wrapped in SDG themes.
